Our first miniature donkey was a gray-dun jack named Grady. He arrived on our farm in October, 2007. He was a little over a year old. It was love at first sight. Grady is adorable with a wonderful personality. He loves to be the center of attention. Shortly after we brought him home, he was invited to a large Halloween event for children. It lasted three hours and he loved every minute of it. The children petted him constantly and he stood there loving it all.
Since Grady’s arrival, we’ve added 4 jennies – Blue Belle, Peanut, Annie and Misty.
Several babies were born – Alma, Oscar and Ottie. We now have a full house of miniature jacks and jennies – 11 jennies and 5 jacks. More babies will be born in late Summer and Early Fall of 2010. New babies will be ready for sale after they are weaned. Keep checking the web page or call us anytime for details.
Miniature Mediterranean donkeys trace their roots to the islands of Sicily and Sardinia. They were mostly used as working animals. A few people imported them to the USA and began breeding them. The average size of a miniature donkey is 32” to 35”. They can live 25 to 45 years if properly cared for. Their weight is 200 to 450 pounds. Their color can range from black to white and all the colors between. “Gray-Dun” is the most common color. Miniature donkeys are very loving and laid back animals. They crave attention and they form a strong bond to their owners and to the other donkeys.
